Rūznāma collects nothing.

There's no account, no ads, no analytics and no server of mine. What you write stays on your devices and in your own iCloud.

Rūznāma is made by Omar El-Etr, one person. This page says what the app does with what you give it.

Your tasks

Tasks, sections, habits, History and settings are kept on your iPhone. If iCloud is on for Rūznāma, they sync through your private iCloud database and iCloud key-value storage, which only your Apple Account can read. I can't see them. iCloud is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Location

If you allow it, Rūznāma uses your approximate location to work out prayer times on your iPhone. It's rounded to about 1 km and kept on the device. Apple's maps service is asked for the name of your town, and searched when you look a place up by name. A place you choose by name syncs through your iCloud so your devices agree. Without location the app works the same, without prayer times.

Your voice

When you tap the mic, what you say is turned into words on your iPhone, by Apple's on-device speech recognition and, if you turned it on, the voice model. The recording is never saved or sent anywhere. The written task syncs like any other.

The voice model is optional. Turning it on downloads it from Hugging Face, which, like any website you download from, sees your device's network address. Nothing of yours is sent to them.

Sorting tasks

Quick capture sorts a task into your sections with Apple's on-device model where your iPhone has Apple Intelligence, and otherwise by matching words. Either way it happens on the device.

Widgets, Share and Siri

The app leaves a short summary of the day for its widgets and share card in a folder they share on your iPhone. When you share a web page to Rūznāma, the share card fetches that page's title from its website, as Safari would. Requests through Siri and Shortcuts are handled by Apple.

What Rūznāma doesn't do

If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may pass me anonymous crash reports. That's Apple's setting, and you can turn it off.

Children

Rūznāma collects nothing from anyone, children included.

Removing your data

Settings ▸ Rūznāma ▸ Export the Book saves everything as one Markdown file. Deleting the app removes what's on the device. To remove the iCloud copy, open iPhone Settings ▸ your name ▸ iCloud ▸ Manage Account Storage, choose Rūznāma and delete its data.

Changes

If this ever changes, this page will say so and its date will change.
